Fairbourne

Fairbourne is a salty, sleepy coastal village I go on holiday to every year.

Nestled in Gwynedd, north Wales, it has been at the centre of discussions about climate-induced displacement in the UK. In 2013, Gwynedd Council decided that defending the village against rising sea levels would not be sustainable in the long term, leading to plans to relocate of its residents by around 2054. This decision caused significant concern among residents, who were labelled as the UK's first climate refugees. It has not yet been decommissioned, but the future of the village is uncertain.
